If you haven’t seen Jim Gaffigan’s latest stand-up special, MR UNIVERSE, you’re missing out. It’s well worth the mere $5.00, and comes with the benefit of being able to download the digital file for viewing on your computer or burning to a DVD — a cost and convenience factor made possible by Gaffigan following the Louis CK trend of self-distribution.
One segment in particular caught my attention for its insightfulness as a cultural critique. Everyone pays attention to things, or takes in some type of content, that has about as much positive value as preservatives have nutritional value. In Gaffigonian terms, we all have our own personal McDonald’s.
Now that’s good philosophical comedy — as true as it is hilarious.
